Fr Paul writes:
The new translation of the Lectionary for Mass invites us all to a renewed encounter with the rich structure of the lectionary, as well as its possibilities for laying a foundation for prayer, preaching and mission.

Bishop David encourages as many as possible of us to take advantage of this chance for formation in the liturgy:
Our celebration of liturgy is certainly the most important thing we do within the Body of Christ, and at the heart of it is the Word of God. We have a unique opportunity for clergy and laity, together with those involved in our schools, to listen to someone who can encourage and inspire us as we introduce the new translation of the Lectionary from Advent this year. I hope that as many clergy as possible and all our schools will take the opportunity to participate in the days of reflection upon this important development in the liturgical life of our diocese.

Fr Paul Turner is pastor of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Kansas City, Missouri and director of the Office of Divine Worship for the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St Joseph. He holds a doctorate in sacred theology from Sant’ Anselmo in Rome. He is a consultor for the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. His publications include Ars Celebrandi: Celebrating and Concelebrating Mass (Collegeville: Liturgical Press, 2021), Words Without Alloy: A Biography of the Lectionary for Mass (Collegeville: Liturgical Press, 2022), and dozens of other titles.
