Event Details

This training is aimed at supporting local Governors (experienced and new) in developing a deeper understanding of their role as Guardians of the Mission. Heads, RE Leads and other senior staff are very welcome to attend but it is not expected that they must do so.

Part of the crucial role of local governing bodies and boards is in providing support and challenge to our school leaders over the areas of Catholic Life and academic standards in RE; also acting as the Bishop’s representatives to ensure that the school is conducted as a Catholic school in every respect, so that the children or young people within it receive the very best Catholic education possible, especially the most vulnerable.

It will also explore support for the role of Local Governing Bodies and Lead Governors for RE and Catholic Life in relation to inspections.

*How can we help and support our schools during inspections? What questions might governors be asked?
*How can we confidently articulate what our mission statement is and what we do in our Catholic schools?
*How are our governors holding the headteacher to account for the leadership and management of the Catholic life and mission of the school and ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Bishops’ Conference and the diocese?
*What are the Key Catholic Principles underpinning Catholic education?
*We will also share ways in which our governors already support, challenge and bear witness to the Catholic Life and Mission of our schools.
