Education Sunday - Diocese of Northampton

We begin Our Catholic Schools Week on Sunday 4 October with Education Sunday.

This is a great opportunity for school and parish to come together to celebrate the place our schools have in the wider Church and how our parish clergy can support their local school.  Here are some ways this can be done:

• Encourage pupils from your school to wear their uniform to Mass
• Go through the Sunday readings, psalm and bidding prayers with pupils in school
• Devise your own bidding prayers
• If your parish has a second collection for Education Sunday, you could arrange for pupils to gather the collection in church
• Placing students artwork in church, the church hall or other prominent places
• Having a student led bake sale or tea/coffees after Mass
• Arranging for pupils to come into church with the school banner
• Have pupils or school staff reading in Mass
• Have pupils or school staff bringing up Communion
• Include the school choir in Mass
• Encourage your local clergy into school this week
• Take all pupils for a visit to your local church to meet the priest and have a look round

This is by no means an exhaustive list and we encourage school/parish links throughout the year.  Don’t forget to take photos (where appropriate) and send them in to us for inclusion on the website or in Education News.
